Bramble

Bramble lives at the very bottom of Thistledown Lane, in a little round house tucked right into the old stone wall. You'll always spot her by her green knitted scarf, which she pulls up tight whenever there's an adventure to be had.

Bramble is curious, kind and very good at noticing things that other people miss, like one leaf lying the wrong way up. When a friend is in trouble she never says "it's no good". She says "Come on", and off they go together.

Moss

Moss is Bramble's best friend. He is small and grey, with big round ears that droop when he's worried, and he worries quite a lot. Dark woods, big fields and strange noises all make his whiskers twitch.

But Moss is a thinker. When everyone else is rushing about, he sits down, has a proper think, and comes up with the plan that saves the day. And when it really matters, Moss is braver than anyone.

Lilly

Lilly lives in the big tree at the top of the lane, and she never goes anywhere slowly. She whizzes down walls so fast the leaves spin behind her, and she starts talking before her feet have even stopped.

Lilly wears a red beret and carries a little satchel for her acorns, which she hides all over the lane and then can't remember where. She's warm, generous and always excited, even when things go wrong.

Old Wren

Old Wren sits on his branch above the lane, where he can see everything that happens. Every morning he sings the lane awake, and the day doesn't feel quite right until he has.

Old Wren is wise, but he never just gives you the answer. He gives you a clue, like "follow the leaves", and lets you work out the rest. He's always right, and he does like to remind you.

Mam

Mam keeps the warmest kitchen on Thistledown Lane, and there's nearly always something in the oven. Her knitted apron has a pocket for everything, and her kettle is always on.

When anyone on the lane doesn't know what to do, they go and see Mam. She listens, she says something very sensible, and somehow there's always a warm bun to go with it.
